Australian billionaire and business tycoon Mark Bouris remembers the time when he reached his lowest point after pushing himself too far, which resulted in him being hospitalized.

The well-known entrepreneur and media figure, aged 67, established Wizard Home Loans and currently serves as the chairman of the mortgage brokerage firm Yellow Brick Road.

He is also the host of two podcasts, Straight Talk and The Mentor, featuring conversations with prominent entrepreneurs, business leaders, and political figures.
In a candid blog post This week, Bouris mentioned that he gained an appreciation for hard work from his dad, yet this very determination nearly led to his downfall in 2009.

He pondered over the risks associated with burnout, acknowledging that even though he was successful, he had suffered for not paying attention to the early warnings.

'I didn't decrease my speed. I believed I had no alternative,' he penned.

'I pushed myself too hard, and ended up hospitalized due to a severe sickness.'

He mentioned that particular experience completely altered his perspective permanently.

'That was a wake-up call,' he wrote.

I am certain you have come across tales of individuals experiencing severe physical and psychological repercussions due to burnout. Sadly, I fell into this category.

Currently, Bouris promotes sustained success and well-being in his sector by encouraging business owners to view themselves as their greatest resource.

In his piece, Bouris emphasized that achievement doesn’t hinge on constant work around the clock; rather, it’s about being efficient, staying disciplined, and understanding when to call it quits.

"I frequently advise business owners that they cannot compromise when it comes to their health," he stated.

Including that the key isn’t in trends or drastic methods, but in mastering the fundamentals: sleep, exercise, and recovery.

He likewise cautions against merging the boundaries between work and relaxation, a common mistake he thinks many business proprietors make.

"We often fret about keeping our phones charged but neglect to rejuvenate ourselves. Taking a break doesn’t equate to going to the bar or responding to work emails outside office hours; rather, it involves allowing your body and mind genuine downtime," he stated.

Bouris emphasized that it was crucial for business owners to understand their purpose and their 'why'.

He mentioned that during chaotic times in the business world, getting through them comes from remembering your original reasons for being involved in it all.

He mentioned, "There will be moments when your usual schedule gets disrupted. Think of late evenings, early mornings, and all the instances in between."

When that occurs, having a sense of purpose provides you with an additional boost, much like how a boxing world champion taps into extra reserves during the last round.

Bouris's point is evident: burnout is genuine, and nobody can escape it.

' cease overlooking the fundamentals,' he penned.

When it's time for work, focus on getting things done. And when it's time to relax, make sure you truly unwind.
